New Smallmouth Bass Flyfishing Video!

I've been working on a lot of projects lately, which partially explains my blogging slump.  One of these projects has been trying to do more filming on fishing trips. I've been using a GoPro Hero 4 silver and a basic Nikon D series--no super high end gear or drones yet.

I made the short video below with GoPro footage from a solid day of pre-spawn fishing for Smallmouth Bass on the Kankakee River right here in the greater Chicagoland area with local guide Will Winans. The video reacts to a question that anyone who's worked in a fly shop has heard from plenty of naive customers.  Check it out, and then check out Will's guide service at www.bigriverfly.com. If you're going to be in Chicago or nearby this year, I highly recommend a day on the water with Will.  He's a friendly and knowledgable guide who puts clients first.  Here's a glimpse at fishing this great river:

I hope you enjoy the video.  Please take a moment and check out another project of mine -- Motion Flyfishing -- at www.motionflyfishing.com.  I'm running high quality flyfishing instruction and super fun group trips. Keep up on on instagram & Twitter: @motionflyfish. More on this to come!

The Health Benefits of Fly Fishing

I came across this article from Fix.com the other day on social media, and I thought these infographics were great. And these are yet more reasons to walk a little farther from the car to find your first spot for the day. Enjoy!

Cabin Fever: Striped Bass on the Fly

It's cold here in Chicago. It's really cold--ZERO degrees Fahrenheit cold.

So I'm daydreaming--Thinking of trips to come; remembering trips past.

In my cabin fever, I came across this video of Tiffany landing a nice striped bass in New Jersey last Spring. It's early morning, no one else around, and Tiffany couldn't be happier. I live for moments like these:

Some cool underwater shots of the fish appear toward the end.

Looking forward to what memories the rest of 2016 brings...
